Description
This Venetian schiavona dates from the mid-1600s. The 74 cm long, wide, double-edged blade is marked with the "eyelashes" bladesmith's marks. One of the branches of the guard, as well as the pommel are struck with the Doges Armory mark, the Winged Lion of the evangelist St. Mark. The basket guard has lost one or two branches, which is often seen now, given the delicacy of these hilts. Blade has an old battle scar on one of the edges. Remarkably, the original grip leather covering is almost entirely intact. An excellent, expressive 17th c. Venetian schiavona!
