Description
Even though unmarked, this American officer's eagle pommel saber has the clear signs of being a product of Nathan Ames - the style of the open-beaked eagle head and the typical Ames etching of the blade, including the cross-hatched etching of the ricasso. To my knowledge, none of these Ames eagle pommel swords were marked with his name, but all exhibit the traits described above.
Blade is 28" long, profusely etched with patriotic and military motifs. There is some staining, but no pitting. Hilt is tight, with a good amount of original gilding. A good early 19th c. American officer's sword.
