Description
This iron-mounted saber has characteristics of being made by one of Philadelphia or Connecticut bladesmiths. It is mounted with a wide 31" blade with a single narrow fuller at the top. Iron scabbard has two brackets with loops for the carrying rings brazed on to the body of the scabbard, as was done by Nathan Starr. The scabbard throat piece is long gone. Grip is ribbed and polished walnut or similar hardwood. The patina is now intermixed with original japanning.
A very interesting War of 1812 American iron-mounted sword.
