This small American silver-mounted dirk dates to the early decades of the 19th century. Blade is 9 cm. long, diamond in cross-section. Sheath frog is gone. Hilt is loose, in part due to the checkered grip shrinkage and from old age. It's a near miracle that such a small piece survived at all. It may have been used it as a paper knife. Certainly, no self-respecting brawler would've relied on a tiny dirk like this to drive a point home, so to speak.
