Description
This substantial Armenian qama dates to the mid-1800s. Maker's mark consists of a cartouche with Armenian letters M and A, along with an old Armenian letter or symbol which my kind Armenian friend haven't been successful in deciphering.
Giant 60.5 cm long, 5 cm wide blade has three fullers on each side, with two lateral fullers decorated with the flowing vine motifs; the median fuller is etched with serpentine pattern. The hilt is simple, with two protruding rivet heads, in the Georgian style. An outstanding, scarcely-seen qama!
