This is a rare find - an Austrian Model 1765 Grenadier hanger complete with it's leather and brass scabbard. This is one of the rarer swords from the turbulent and, ultimately, final period in the history of the Holy Roman Empire. These hangers were produced only from 1765 to 1769, until the new model came to be.
Brass hilt is in excellent condition, leather-bound grip is completely intact. Unfullered 58.5 cm-long blade bears the mystical Germanic rune, a so-called "WolfsAngel" or "Todesrune", resembling letter Z. Similar symbols can sometimes be found on the blades of the Austrian Prima Plana infantry swords dating to mid-1700s. It was supposed to protect the bearer. It certainly has protected this sword, judging by the fantastic overall condition.
