Description

A gorgeous gilt bronze hammercloth armorial with the arms of John Samuel Wanley Sawbridge Erle-Drax of Olantigh, Kent, Ellerton Abbey, Yorkshire and Charborough Park, Dorset. Measures 13x18 cm framed. The detail of the casting is stunning, with beautiful and elaborate Rococo scrolls. I would date it ca.1830-1850. It probably adorned the Erle-Drax carriage. Knows as a "Silent MP", he served in the House on and off for 40 years.
