This Ottoman yataghan dates to the late 18th-early 19th cent. Hilt is composed of gilded furniture and bone grips arranged in a traditional ear-shaped pommel. The very back of the gilded central strap is adorned with a green stone [Green is the color of Islam] . 62 cm-long blade is decorated with silver inlay on both sides. Bone grip is in fine condition, with an appealing aged patina and a small chip at the left bolster. Gilded furniture of the hilt is in very good condition, with a minor period repair. Hilt is a little skewed in relation to the blade. Blade is in fine shape, silver inlay is worn in parts. A very attractive yataghan of much higher than average workmanship.
