Description
This rather early Civil War cutlass is dated 1862. Obverse recess bears the Ames mark. Leather grip is in very good shape, missing the wrap wire. Blade has patinated nicely, and retains its luster. There is no active rust or pitting anywhere on the blade. Riveted leather scabbard survives in very good condition as well, with the bottom-most portion missing. Ship rack numbers are stamped on the Quilon and the scabbard body. A very desirable US Navy cutlass for a collector of Civil War edged weapons, as well as a naval collector.
