Description
This Georgian officer's gorget measures 11 x 9 cm, and retains much of its original fire gilding. Known as the 1796 Universal Pattern Gorget, these were worn as part of the uniform by all officers of the British Army. The condition is outstanding, with crisp engraved Royal Monogram of King George III, surmounted by the Georgian Crown, and flanked with the olive branches. The blemishes on the photos are light reflections; the gorget is in pristine condition.
Scarce now, this particular example dates ca.1796-early 1800s, and comfortably fits into the period spanning the French Revolutionary War, Napoleonic Wars and the War of 1812.
