Description
This early 19th c. British Royal Navy officer's dirk is 47 cm. long overall, and is mounted with a 36 cm. long single-edged blade which shows vestiges of etched military and floral motifs on both sides of the forte. Grip has acquired a nice uniform patina, and has two old narrow fractures, filled with plaster of paris, a typical period repair. The loop guard is decorated with an English Rose, quillons are in the shape of laurel leaves, one has a small loop for a knot. An excellent Trafalgar-period English naval piece!
