Description
This good mid-1800 Caucasian kindjal measures 58 cm. long overall, and is mounted with a 44 cm. long blade, well-etched on both sides, inside the fullers, with circular and serpentine motifs. Handle is black horn, with silver tack decoration on the front side. Scabbard is in frail condition. The very prominent maker's mark is unusual, as it is shaped like a profile of a man's head, which might indicate that the maker was a Christian, perhaps an indigenous Armenian.
