Description

This elegant European light horse officer's sword dates ca.1770. Iron-mounted half-basket hilt shows a fine uniform patina, leather-covered grip retains all of its original quadruple copper wire binding. Back piece is faceted. Blade is 84 cm long, with a single wide fuller running 15 cm short of the point. Blade still shows faint engraved talismanic decorations, including the crescent moon. Battle nicks are evident on the blade's edge. An unusual, beautiful weapon that I can see in the hands of a Polish, French or Hungarian cavalry officer of the Louis XVI period.
