EUROPEAN OFFICER'S CAMPAIGN SWORD CA.1690

This steel-hilted officer's field sword dates to the last quarter of the 17th century. It is mounted with a nice 77 cm. stout blade with gold-filled incised decorations on both sides of the forte. The chiseled and pierced work on the shell guard is quite good. Original steel wire-wrapping survives on the grip. Shell guard is a bit wobbly on the hilt, as is often the case with this type of hilt construction. The sword has a pleasing uniform patina.

A very good, honest fighting-grade officer's sword from the late 1600s - English, Swedish, Dutch, German or perhaps even Russian.
