This Spanish military administration official's Modelo 1860 sword (Sable de Oficial de Administración Militar, Modelo 1860) was, in my opinion, made on order for a high-ranking officer, a colonel or a general. The overall quality of the piece is significantly higher than several other examples of this scarce model that I've seen. The hilt is a work of art, cast in light-colored brass, tombac or another alloy, and then hand-chased with a very high level of craftsmanship. Grip is Bakelite or similar early composite emulating ray-skin, and is now missing the wire wrapping. Blade is marked FABRICA DE TOLEDO 1905. Blade is 77 cm long, of excellent quality steel, for which Toledo was known world-wide. Nickel-plated scabbard is in wonderful shape, with only minor scoffs. This is an elegant, seldom-encountered Spanish sword.
