US M1840 HEAVY CAVALRY SABER BY AMES, DATED 1847

All-original in every aspect, this sword is inspector marked by Rufus Chandler [RC] , as well as with initials LWR on the pommel cap. Blade was period sharpened for action, and retains most all of it's factory shine. Scabbard is also marked RC on the drag. Original plating on the scabbard is is outstanding condition, with some losses. The date on the blade of this sword indicates that it had served in both the Mexican and the Civil Wars. An interesting flag-like design is scratched into the inside of the guard, and brings up the Confederate symbolism.
