US MODEL 1873 / 1884 SPRINGFIELD CADET TRAPDOOR RIFLE

$0.00

Description
This 'sleeper'-condition US M1873 / 1884 and its original bayonet just surfaced out of a Massachusetts home and have never been on the market, judging by the uncleaned condition of the gun. Barrel is 29.5" long, rifle is 46" long and weighs about 9 lbs with the bayonet.

Barrel and bayonet have acquired a nice uniform patina. Trapdoor and lock function fine, bore is dirty and covered in old dried grease, but should clean up to a mirror-bright condition. Lock plate is marked US SPRINGFIELD. Breech is stamped US MODEL 1873. Stock is clean, with no cracks or other damages, and shows only minor scoffs. Breech is numbered 406223. Stock does not have an inspector's cartouche, just the letter R stamped behind the trigger-guard. Stock is stamped 217 on the left, and the butt is marked 1C (1st Company?). Barrel is martially-marked with the standard US Army proofs on the left breech. Bayonet blade is 16" long and is stamped US.
