This is my last remaining and by far the best Springfield trapdoor rifle.
This US M1888 trapdoor is in overall superb condition, with virtually all of its original bluing and case-hardening present. There is a an area of scoffing of the blue at the muzzle end of the barrel. Wood is in outstanding condition, with some minuscule bruises. Serial number 558665 makes this one of the last .45-70 Springfield's ever produced, and marks an end of an era. Barrel bore is mirror-bright. Cartouches are prominent and clear. Master armorer's cartouche is dated 1892.
For most of us, this will be the best-conditioned Trapdoor Springfield that we will ever encounter!
