Description

This nice US Naval officer's Model 1852 sword is marked by Horstman Philadelphia on the front, and Weyersberg on reverse of the recess. Back is marked IRON PROOF. Blade is 27.5" long, nicely decorated with the US Navy motifs, anchor, fouled cable, etc. Blade has a nice uniform patina. Hilt and scabbard mounts have patinated nicely and evenly as well, and retain some of their original gilding. The scabbard covering is shagreen or shark's skin, and has a break towards the chapel. Ends of the break line up perfectly on the front, a small piece is missing on the back of the scabbard. Sword is nice and tight. A very nice Civil War US Naval officer's sword!
