Description

This rarely seen USN officer's Model 1841 sword is needle-engraved by the maker N.P. AMES CUTLER SPRINGFIELD on the obverse recess of the 28" blade. The reverse side of the blade is etched UNITED STATES NAVY. Various other naval and military motifs are etched on the pipe-back blade. The obverse folding guard is decorated with the distinct M1830 and M1841 acorn and oak leaf clusters. Both the front and the rear folding guards are replacements. The sword fells very tight, the blade is straight and true, with much of the etched decorations visible, but now light.
In use for only 11 years, this pattern was replaced with the much more familiar M1852 naval officer's sword.
