AMERICAN LONG RIFLE OF THE UPPER SUSQUEHANNA TYPE ca.1825

This first half of the 19th c. American long rifle is in the Upper Susquehanna river vernacular, roughly from the area of Albany and further west, to Buffalo. The patch box is nearly identical to the John Kidder-made rifles. The lock was converted from flintlock to percussion. The octagonal barrel is 37.5" long, and the caliber is .5". Gun is very heavy, about 13.5 lbs. There is period repair at the wrist of the stock, and the trigger-guard is long gone. Lock is marked R.S.CLARK EXTRA. Lock mechanism functions well. Ramrod is possibly original. A scarce upstate New York rifle with scars of honest use and wear.
